DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/25 January) — ADavao-based business process outsourcing and information technology firm recently launched a social website and mobile application intended to provide immediate services to the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
Myrna Y. Padilla, chief executive officer and president of Mynd Consulting, said yesterday in the weekly Club 888 forum at Marco Polo Davao Hotel that the website dubbed “OFW Watch” includes directory of various sectors, news and direct link to its Facebook and mobile application.
“OFW Watch was created to allow OFWs to connect with each other. By connecting via social media, we are empowered to help each other,” she said, citing her experience as a former domestic helper for over 20 years.
The website was launched last week. It serves as a venue for the 12 million Filipino workers abroad to immediately connect and help each other. The workers can register their mobile or Facebook accounts through the website.
OFWs could also rate the 3,400 recruitment agencies identified by Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). The rating would be the basis whether they would recommend the agencies or not to other Filipinos.
Filipinos working abroad could further access the directory of Philippine embassies, consulates, POEA and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. The directory includes addresses, telephone numbers, maps and emails of these offices.
The mobile application also dubbed OFW Watch, meanwhile, contains directory, news, the text of the Migrant Workers’ Act, frequently asked questions from POEA, OWWA and Department of Foreign Affairs, currency converter and translator.
The mobile application can be downloaded from the OFW Watch website, and can be used for Android phones and soon for iPhones. (MindaNews)
