DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/20 February) – A Filipino-American who was accused of smuggling luxury vehicles from the United States is in for another trouble.
This time Lynard Allan Bigcas of Cagayan de Oro City has been tagged in the shooting of a lawyer Roberto Palma Gil around 11am on Sunday along Torres Street in this city.
Supt. Antonio Rivera, station commander of the San Pedro police precinct said they will file a complaint after getting the affidavits of witnesses.
During the incident, Bigcas was reportedly in a pickup vehicle together with Aime Torrefranca, also a lawyer and said to be a former girlfriend of Palma Gil.
Bigcas allegedly chased Palma Gil who was in another vehicle, and an exchange of gunfire ensued in front of a food chain along Torres Street.
Palma Gil suffered a gunshot wound in his left arm and is now confined in a hospital guarded by police, Rivera said.
The police official said it was Bigcas who fired first using a .45 caliber pistol at the victim who was also armed with a pistol based on a closed circuit television footage.
Asked if the motive was “love triangle,” Rivera answered that Torrefranca denied having a relationship with Bigcas.
Bigcas immediately fled leaving behind Torrefranca, who brought the victim to the hospital.
Police recovered from the scene two spent shells of a a . 45 caliber pistol, and another one coming from a .40 caliber pistol.
Palma Gil gave his car key, broken pistol and live ammunition to the police.
Bigcas has been indicted for alleged smuggling of high-end cars and motorcycles believed stolen from the US.
Bigcas’s alleged smuggling operations were uncovered when authorities raided his home in Talakag, Bukidnon and in Barangay Kauswagan in Cagayan de Oro last May 3 upon tips from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Charged with Bigcas in DOJ Manila in June last year were Noeh Alcala, Gilbert Omolon, Luke Alcala, Lyann Bigcas and Joshua Bigcas, all coming from Talakag, Bukidnon.
Among the vehicles seized by authorities was an $80,000 Martin Brothers custom made motorcycle which was stolen four years ago from Hollywood writer Skip Woods (of X Men and Swordfish fame).
The FBI confirmed that at least seven of the more than 20 luxury cars and racing motorcycles seized from Bigcas were stolen in the US. (MindaNews)
