GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews/16 March) – A regional trial court judge was brought to the local hospital here Wednesday evening after he was hit by a speeding motorcycle outside the house of Rep. Manny Pacquiao, reports said.
In a report, Senior Supt. Cedric Train, city police director, identified the victim as Judge Antonio Lubao, 67, who is currently the presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 22 here.
He said Lubao just emerged from Pacquiao’s mansion along the NLSA Road in Barangay Lagao at around 8:30 p.m. when he was struck by the motorcycle driven by Oliver Busano, a resident of Purok 17 of the same village.
Lubao, who was then attending a bible study at the Pacquiao mansion, was just checking his vehicle that was parked by the roadside when the incident happened, he said.
Citing a report from the Lagao police station, the official said the suspect appeared intoxicated and did not have a driver’s license. The suspect is currently detained at the Lagao police station’s lock-up jail pending the filing of appropriate charges against him.
Attending physicians later said Judge Lubao sustained minor injuries and was already in stable condition.
It was not immediately known if Pacquiao himself was inside the house at the time the accident happened, although he was reported to be in the city since Monday.
Bible studies and bible readings have become regular activities inside the residences of the congressman even if he is not in his house, according to sources.
Pacquiao has confessed to turning a new page in his colorful life by reading passages from the bible.
The Catholic Church is reportedly contemplating appointing Pacquiao as its Bible Ambassador.
He is said to have given up gambling and heavy drinking and had confessed to wife Jinky before national television that he “had been bad.”
Pacquiao even told several reporters that he had given up hundreds of his fighting cocks, one of his pastime passions.
Pacquiao was persistently linked to several women before and was even sued by a former pool attendant for alimony. (Allen V. Estabillo, with a report from Edwin G. Espejo/Mindanews)
