KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews/28 May) — A security guard and two other persons were injured when a fragmentation grenade went off inside the Notre Dame Hospital (NDH) in Cotabato City, almost 12 midnight Sunday, police reports said.
The Cotabato City police identified the victims as Emilio Cairos, 24, security guard of the NDH; Noraisa Pangalian, 21, and Baisa Pangalian, 18, both watchers of a patient at the hospital.
The victims sustained multiple shrapnel wounds in different parts of their bodies, reports said.
Responding policemen nabbed a suspect they identified as Ismael Usop.
Usop allegedly figured in a fistfight last week with a certain Ben Canoy who is confined at the NDH.
Canoy is being treated from a gunshot wound in his back but survived the bombing incident unhurt.
According to reports, the suspect tossed the grenade into the hospital room where Canoy was recuperating.
Security officers at the NDH were clueless as to how Usop managed to enter the hospital with a grenade in his pocket.
Before the suspect could escape, policemen collared him in one corner of the hospital. (Malu Cadelina Manar/MindaNews)
