16 homes razed in Davao fire

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/03 July) – Twelve houses were completely destroyed and four others were partly damaged in a fire that hit Barangay 76-A in Ecoland here, past 7pm yesterday.

According to Senior Fire Officer Dioscoro Baja Jr., the fire started at the house of Anthony Bersaval aka Bayat.

At least 10 fire trucks responded to the incident. It took two hours to put out the fire.

The amount of damage was yet to be determined as investigators could not find the owners of the burned houses. There were no reports of casualties.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined too. Baha has discounted the possibility that it was caused by electricity saying they could not find evidence to prove it.

Firefighters had a hard time containing the fire as the houses were so close to each other. There was also no pathway making it difficult for the hoses to reach the burning houses.

The area affected is surrounded by boarding houses. Last April, authorities started a massive inspection of the boarding houses but were unable to finish it. (Bui Tran Nhu Phuong/for MindaNews)
