ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanews/13 August) – Mayor Celso Lobregat will hand over on Thursday the P10 million financial assistance of Zamboanga City to the 19 municipalities in Luzon hit by floods last week.
Lobregat said P1 million will be given to the municipality San Mateo, Rizal province, a sister town of Zamboanga City, and P9 million will be shared by the 18 other flood-stricken municipalities at P500,000 each.
The other recipient-municipalities are: Concepcion, Paniqui and Capas in the province of Tarlac; Masantol, Macabebe, Calumpit, Paombong, Hagonoy, Obando and Bucaue, in the province of Bulacan; Dinalupihan, Orani and Mariveles in Bataan; Sto. Tomas and Minalin, Pampanga; and, San Marcelino and Iba, Zambales.
Lobregat said some of the financial aid, in checks, will be handed over to Local Governments Secretary Jesse Robredo, who will turn it over to the intended recipients while the others will handed over to the mayors of the affected places.
Lobregat said the release of the financial assistance was approved by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) through a resolution during an emergency meeting held last Friday.
The P10 million will come from the calamity fund of Zamboanga City, Lobregat said.
He said it was Robredo who identified the municipalities inundated by flood and which are in dire need of help.
“I asked him which areas in Luzon really need the money most, then, he (Robredo) texted me the affected municipalities,” he added. (MindaNews)
