CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (MindaNews/04 Nov) – A wayward bus rammed into a gmelina tree in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental Sunday afternoon, injuring at least 30 persons, police said.
Supt. Rolando Hinanay, police director of Misamis Oriental said the bus, owned by Batman Bus Company, was on its way to Cagayan de Oro City from Balingoan town when one of its front tires exploded.
The explosion caused the bus to spiral uncontrollably towards a gmelina tree on the side of the Butuan-CDO highway in Barangay Jampason, Jasaan town at around 1:30 p.m.
Hinanay said at least 30 persons including truck driver Roger Macabenlar were admitted to various hospitals in Jasaan and Cagayan de Oro, about an hour’s ride away.
ABS-CBN, however, reported that at least 54 persons were admitted to the Jasaan town hospital.
Hinanay said an investigation is underway to see whether there was negligence on the part of the driver.
The bus company is popular among the riding public because it offers cheap fare. (Froilan Gallardo/MindaNews)
