SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews/03 Nov) – The body of a fisherman who was reported missing since 4 p.m. Monday was found Friday evening in Burungkot island, Placer town in Surigao del Norte, Eutiquio Saga. Jr. barangay chair of Lakandula, said.
Lemuel “Awing” Polistico, 37 went missing in the afternoon of Monday, October 29 when a crew of a “Liba-liba” fishing boat found his empty motorized banca at about 5 p.m.
Polistico’s body was found by fisherfolk in a tiny island in Placer town, called “Burungkot,” Saga said.
He said the police in Placer called him up to relay the information that Polistico’s decomposing had been found.
Saga said the cause of his death was a hard object that hit his face. He said Polistico was allegedly hit by the boat’s propeller, causing his death.
The local office of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said last Monday’s weather occurrence was characterized by a sudden “local weather disturbance.”
The same “local weather disturbance” could happen in different areas in different periods and could last from “30 minutes to an hour,” it said. (Vanessa L. Almeda/MindaNews)
