CdO police chief, station commander sacked over grenade blast

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (MindaNews/ 22 November)—The Philippine National Police Regional Office 10 (PRO-10) here has sacked this city’s police director and a station commander in connection with the grenade blast outside a lending firm that injured eight persons Wednesday morning.

Supt. Ronnie Francis Cariaga, PRO-10 spokesperson, said that city police director Supt. Gerardo Rosales and Chief Insp. Lemuel Gonda, Lapasan-Agora police station commander, have been relieved from their posts.

PRO-10 director Chief Supt. Gil Hitosis issued the administrative relief order, based on the PNP’s General Order 978, following the grenade explosion, which was “effective immediately,” Cariaga said.

After the bombing incident in front of the Maxandrea Hotel last October 11, which killed two persons and wounded two others, Hitosis issued an ordered that should another bombing or a similar incident occur again, the chief of the police station will be relieved.

While Gonda still has no replacement as of this writing, Supt. Antonio Montalba will temporarily replace Rosales as director of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office.

Both Gonda and Rosales could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, Cariaga said that the management of the Golden Sun Finance Corp. has submitted the list of their clients whom the lending firm had sued, with the aim of helping investigators identify the perpetrator of the grenade explosion. (Cong B. Corrales/MindaNews)
