DAVAO CIT Y(MindaNews/07 January) – The Low Pressure Area (LPA) earlier expected to hit Davao and Caraga regions is now moving towards Davao and the Cotabato regions.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administation (PAGASA) in its weather advisory 2 issued at 11 a.m. Monday, said the LPA was estimated at 410 kilometers southeast of Davao City as of 10 a.m., embedded along the Intertropical Convernge Zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao.
PAGASA’s advisory at 5 a.m. said the LPA was spotted 300 kilometers southeast of Mindanao as of 4 a.m.
The weather disturbance is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms in Mindanao, “particularly in the regions of Davao and SOCCSKSARGEN which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.”
“Residents in these areas are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures.”
Davao region (Region 11) comprises the provinces of Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley and the cities of Davao, Tagum, Panabo, Samal, Digos and Mati while Region 12 (Southwestern Mndanao or Soccsksargen), comprises South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Sarangani and the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Kidapawan, Tacurong and Cotabato.

The LPA is the second in four days and the third since Typhoon Pablo struck Davao and Caraga regions on December 4.
After Typhoon Pablo on December 4, an LPA was spotted towards Caraga and Davao regions, with an expected landfall in Dinagat islands on January 26. The LPA, which intensified into Typhoon Quinta, made landfall in Eastern Visayas instead. On January 2, another LPA was also spotted near the same regions, later intensifying into what would be known as Typhoon Auring. (MindaNews)
