ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/22 January) – Seven soldiers were wounded in an ambush Tuesday in Basilan by suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits, a military official disclosed.
Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Col. Rodrigo Gregorio said the troops were on the way to their headquarters when the bandits ambushed them around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday in the boundary of Barangays Amaloy and Bohe Pahu, Ungkaya Pukan town.
Gregorio added the troops, who belong to the Army’s 4th Scout Ranger Battalion, had just conducted security patrol.
But he said the troops managed to fight back and engaged the attackers in a 20-minute firefight.
The bandits fled upon sensing the arrival of reinforcement, he said.
The wounded soldiers were airlifted to the Camp Navarro General Hospital in this city. (MindaNews)
