BUTUAN CITY (MindaNews/07 March) – The city government has tapped 10 local artists to create miniature replicas of the historic balanghai boat using trash materials.
The 3D replicas will be made of plastic bottles, tin caps, papers, cardboard, Styrofoam, used nets, old toys and old extension wires.
The artists were given three days, or until March 8, to create the balanghai replicas, an activity under the Clean Ground Zero Waste program of the LGU.
“In truth, I do not have any medium that I depend on. We are just going to use all the available materials, and at the same time it will depend on the emotions of the artist on what they wanted to express, said Gualberto Licong Jr., one of the participating artists.
“It will depend on his interpretation, on how we artist understands it,” he added.
Another participating artist, Jean Pajaron, pointed out that creating such art is a way of discovering.
“Just discover; any medium will do. Art has no limit as long as you can express yourself. We were given the materials of these different trashes. It’s a challenge on our side,” she said.
“In this generation, just discover your medium and continue the art,” she said.
City Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. expressed optimism the activity will help promote ways to convert trash to cash through the Clean Ground Zero Waste program.
The balanghai replicas will be displayed and judged on March 8. (Erwin Mascarinas/MindaNews)
