PRESIDENT ROXAS, North Cotabato (MindaNews / 19 June) – A policeman was shot to death early today after handing a search warrant to a family here known for carrying unlicensed firearms.
The victim was identified as Senior Police Officer 2 Eldorado Dolloso.
Senior Insp. Marlou Dolar, chief of President Roxas PNP, said there was resistance from members of the Pepito family when Dolloso handed down the search warrant issued by Judge Arvin Sadiri Balagot.
The court order gave Dolloso and his team the authority to search the house of Willie Sagucom Pepito and his son known only as Kokoy.
But instead of allowing Dolloso to come in, Dolar said the policemen were met with so much defiance – Willie Pepito fired shots towards Dolloso and his team.
Dolloso was hit on his head and died while being treated at Antipas Medical Special Hospital in nearby Antipas town.
After the shooting, father and son fled towards unknown direction, Dolar said.
The Pepitos, based on the search warrant, are accused of violating Presidential Decree 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294 for allegedly carrying unlicensed firearms.
Dolar said pursuit operations are still ongoing.
Reports from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Team in North Cotabato said that other than carrying unlicensed guns, the suspects are also facing other criminal charges.
