ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews / 31 July) – The kidnappers who abducted a university clerk in this city over a month ago released their victim in Jolo before dawn today, the military said.
The victim, Alrashid Rojas, 56, was freed around 4 a.m. Wednesday at the port of Jolo, Sulu, according to Col. Rodrigo Gregorio, the spokesman of the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom).
Rojas is a clerk of the College of Asian and Islamic Studies at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) here.
He was abducted by four men in military uniforms in the evening of June 22 just outside his residence’s compound at Amping Drive, Barangay Campo Islam.
He was then handcuffed and dragged towards the shoreline approximately 50 meters away where four other armed men were waiting aboard a white motorized banca that sped towards the west coast of this city.
Gregorio said that troops immediately rushed to the port of Jolo following receipt of information about the latter’s release. Roxas was found there alone.
He was brought to the headquarters of the 2nd Marine Brigade for medical treatment and debriefing, Gregorio said.
“Whether there was ransom paid by the family is not yet known,” he added.
Rojas arrived here Wednesday afternoon aboard a military plane from Jolo and reunited with his family.
