ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanews/07July) – One of the most wanted persons in Zamboanga Sibugay was killed when he resisted arrest Saturday, the police reported Sunday.
Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9), identified the slain fugitive as Yacob Iyong who carries the aliases of Botih and Pablo.
Huesca saidIyong has warrants of arrest for double murder with frustrated murder, six counts robbery, and six counts arson issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 24 Judge Rueben Maraon.
Huesca said Iyong was cornered in his hideout when combined police and military troops swooped down on Sitio Lote, Barangay St. Mary, Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte at around 2 a.m. Saturday.
He said the troops were forced to shoot Iyong as he was about to toss a grenade at them.
Iyong’s body was turned over to his relatives in the town to Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay for burial. (MindaNews)
