ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanews/11 July) – A councilor of Pagadian City representing indigenous peoples, was ambushed by unidentified gunmen at around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Councilor Rio Olimpio Lingating, 47, was unscathed but his driver, 22-year old Trifil Jay Macarial, was injured, Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) spokesperson.
Huesca said Lingating and Macarial were aboard a Strada pick-up traveling to Ozamiz City when ambushed by unidentified gunmen at around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday at Purok Curvada, Barangay Dao, Pagadian City.
Lingating was catching up with the flight from Ozamiz City to Davao City, where he will attend a conference, when ambushed.
However, Huesca said Macarial was wounded by windshield’s shards not by the gunmen’s bullets.
