MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/04 September)—Twenty-two inmates escaped from the Valencia City jail Wednesday afternoon, one of them recaptured minutes later, police officials said.
Supt. Roy Magsalay, Valencia City police chief, said that the inmates bolted the city jail at around 3:30 p.m.
The escapees were led by Dionesio Daulong, Albert Espinosa, and a certain Kalid and Tacoy, he added.
Magsalay said that an inmate, whose identity was withheld, was recaptured several minutes later in Barangay Catumbalon.
Chief Insp. Rene Esumadia Berico, Valencia City police community relations officer, told MindaNews on the phone that the inmates escaped from the city jail located in remote Barangay Pinatilan.
He said that police have set up checkpoints around Valencia City and in neighboring areas as pursuit operations continue against the other escaped prisoners.
The police officials did not give other details as of posting time.
The cities of Valencia and Malaybalay and the rest of Bukidnon province have been hit by a brownout since 12:57 p.m. today. Power was restored later at around 8:10 p.m. (Walter I. Balane/MindaNews)
