Zambo police file raps vs suspects in murder of university prexy

ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/11 January) – Criminal charges were filed on Thursday against three suspects in the murder of Universidad de Zamboanga president Arturo Eustaquiao III about two years ago, a police official said.

Chief Supt. Mario Yanga, officer-in-charge of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), said they lodged the complaint before the City Prosecutor’s Office against Moamar Cabulao, the alleged triggerman, and his two unidentified cohorts.

Eustaquio was killed at around 12:55 p.m. on April 1, 2012 along Maestra Vicenta Street, Barangay Sta. Maria, this city.

Yanga, also the deputy regional police director for administration who is set to retire tomorrow (Sunday), said that Cabulao is currently detained at the Zamboanga Sibugay provincial jail after he was arrested last November 13 for his alleged involvement in the killing of lawyer Jocelyn Luna in Tungawan town.

Luna, the then Tungawan town information officer who was about to assume as Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer, was killed last October 16 outside her residence in Barangay La Libertad in Tungawan.

Yanga said that Cabulao was “positively identified by a star witness” as the gunman while his two cohorts acted as lookouts in the killing of Eustaquio.

He said they are still trying to establish the identities of Cabulao’s cohorts and the mastermind in the Eustaquio slaying.

Yanga said that Cabulao’s identity was unmasked in the investigation spearheaded by Chief Insp. Felixberto Martinez, then ZCPO chief for Criminal Investigation and Detection Management and now the Police Station 6 commander.

Martinez said they were able to identify Cabulao through the concerted efforts of Police Stations 6 and 7 as well the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-9. (MindaNews)
