ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/25 February) — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in the city exceeded its target collection goal by P3.7 million for the month of January.
Revenue District Officer Cresencio Agad said they collected P213,117,314.60 as against the target collection goal of P209,417,000 set by the agency.
Agad attributed this to massive information dissemination, tax mapping, monitoring, and efforts by their collectors.
He said having exceeded the target was a good thing, although the amount was small for a prime revenue district.
He said he had instructed his personnel to continue the efforts to maintain a good collection performance.
He added they were tasked to collect P2.4 billion in revenues this year.
Agad also said they are set to launch a tax campaign on Tuesday, March 4, to raise public awareness and urge the public to pay the right amount of taxes.
He said the launching top officials from the BIR-central office in Manila will attend the launching.
He said the campaign aims to remind the taxpayers of the filing season of income tax returns for the year 2013 which ends on April 15.
The official said they will hold a “fiestax” or a tax information drive where the taxpayers will be feted to free coffee and snacks and entertained with a band. (MindaNews)
