ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/10 February) – A public school teacher died while 11 others were wounded when their van plunged into a ravine Sunday in Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay, a police official said.
Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca, Police Regional Office-9 information officer, said the van fell into the ravine while negotiating a curve in Barangay Bulaan, Buug around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Huesca said the driver, Abdulajid Lukman, 41, died on the spot. He was a public school teacher and part of the Sulu delegation.
The other victims included six athletes, school teachers and officials as well as a school nurse, the police official said.
Huesca said the victims, who are part of the Sulu athletic delegation, were en route to Marawi City for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Athletic Association (ARMMAA) meet.
He said they were admitted at the St. John General Hospital in Buug.
ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman immediately provided assistance to the victims.
The athletic meet opened Monday with participants coming from the provinces of Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur. (MindaNews)
