COTABATO CITY (MindaNews/ 08 March) – Former Cotabato City mayor Muslimin is now in safe condition in a hospital in Davao City where he was airlifted after meeting an accident in Maguindanao Friday.
Sema’s convoy figured in a highway accident with a trailer truck in Datu Anggal Midtimbang town Friday noon.
Sema’s brother, Romeo Sema, said the former mayor is now stable and can already talk.
Muslimin Sema’s wife, Bai Sandra Sema, said her husband is just recuperating from his injury.
But one of Sema’s escorts. Bandon Ampatuan, succumbed to injuries and was buried Friday.
Two other escorts identified as Nords Dimasangkay and Samad Tasil were also injured but were already declared safe.
According to Inspector Jun Olas, Datu Anggal Midtimbang police chief, Sema’s van and the truck possibly pressed against each based on the damage sustained by the sides of both vehicles.
Olas said they have yet to determine who was at fault.
He said it was possible one of the truck’s tires burst or its driver fell asleep based on the statements of some first responders.
He said a Toyota Fortuner that was part of Sema’s convoy hit the van, but the railings prevented the van from falling into the deep side of the road.
The convoy was heading for Cotabato City from General Santos City to catch the Friday prayer.
Meanwhile, truck driver Antonio de Lara was detained at the town’s police station and might be charged for reckless driving. (Ferdinandh Cabrera/MindaNews)
