ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/22 March) – If the police got their information right, a student of a local university was freed by his abductors because the latter heeded his plea to be released.
Basil Brice Bernardo, a radiology student at the Universidad de Zamboanga, was abducted by five unidentified persons but was released four hours later in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, a police official disclosed.
Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca, Police Regional Office-9 information officer, said the victim told the police in Ipil that he was freed because the kidnappers took pity on him.
Huesca said Bernardo was seized around 10:45 a.m. Friday beside the Zamboanga City Medical Center where he is an intern.
He said the kidnappers forced Bernardo to board a white van and sped off towards the east coast.
Police recovered the victim around 3 p.m. or four hours later inside a fast food chain in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Huesca said. (MindaNews)
