ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/22 March) – An official of the Bureau of Fire Protection said Saturday that around P5 million worth of properties went up in smoke in two fire incidents that hit this city four hours apart.
Supt. Dominador Zabala Jr., fire marshal of the Zamboanga City District Central Fire Station, estimated at least 100 houses burned to the ground when fire broke out 8:36 p.m. Friday at Macrohon Drive, Barangay Canelar.
Zabala, however, said the investigator of the case has yet to determine the exact number of houses that burned down since they were built close to each other.
He added the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
“There are several allegations and we are still checking all information,” he said..
He said they initially pegged the damage to properties at P5 million.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office had provided assistance to the fire victims most of whom are temporarily housed at the Canelar Elementary School.
Zabala said an estimated P80,000 worth of properties were destroyed in the second fire that broke out 12:36 a.m. Saturday in Barangay Upper Calarian.
He said the fire razed to the ground 12 stalls at the flea market.
He said the cause of the fire was still being investigated too. (MindaNews)
