ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/07 March) – A public school teacher was released some 16 hours after he was abducted by gunmen in the province of Sulu, a police official disclosed Thursday.
Senior Supt. Abraham Orbito, Sulu police director, said the victim, Alrashid Jahang, was released around 8 a.m. Thursday in Sitio Baunuh, Barangay Liang, Patikul town.
He said Jahang, a teacher at Datu Uddin Bahjin Central Elementary School in Barangay Taglibi, Patikul, was abducted around 4 p.m. Wednesday in the same place where he was released.
He said the victim was driving his motorcycle on the way home in Jolo town when abducted by 10 unidentified armed men.
Orbito said that after his release Jahang, who was accompanied by the school district supervisor, immediately went to the schools division office in Jolo where he was reunited with his family.
The police official said no ransom was paid in exchange for Jahang’s freedom.
He said they are still trying to identify the kidnappers. (MindaNews)
