MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/8 April) – Tropical depression “Domeng” has moved northwest and continues to move slowly, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said before noon Tuesday.
Pagasa said the center of the tropical depression was located at 550 kilometers east of Davao City at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, and was moving at 5 kilometers per hour,
The weather bureau said Domeng is expected to be at 360 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur by Wednesday morning and at 230 kilometers east of the same area by Thursday morning.
Domeng was forecast to make landfall in the Surigao provinces on Thursday.
Domeng weakened into a tropical depression Monday night, and Pagasa has not raised any public storm warning in Mindanao and other parts of the country.
The weather disturbance however is still expected to bring 5-15 millimeters per hour of rain within its 400-km disturbance.
On Monday the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Surigao City made preparations for the possible evacuation of residents as Domeng continued to move closer to Mindanao’s eastern seaboard.
City Vice Mayor Danilo C. Menor they have prepared the evacuation centers and purchased relief goods.
Menor has ordered the City Quick Action Response Team to ready all their life-saving equipment such as rubber boats and ambulances, and the City Engineering Office to prepare their heavy equipment for clearing operations.
