MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/09 May) — Soccsksargen Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) has bagged 11 gold, 11 silver and 16 bronze medals as of Thursday to lead all regions in Mindanao in the weeklong Palarong Pambansa 2014 held in Laguna that will end on Saturday, May 10.
The medal haul put SRAA at fifth spot overall as of Thursday afternoon, according to a blogsite put up by the Department of Education for the annual sports event.
Mindanao’s six regions only had a total of 32 of the 170 gold medals awarded so far. Traditional pack leader National Capital Region bagged 51 of those gold medals. It also had 32 silver and 32 bronze medals as of Thursday.
Southern Tagalog was at second place with a 20-26-27 haul, followed by Western Visayas with a 20-14-21 harvest, and Cordillera Autonomous Region with a 15-9-9 performance so far.
Northern Mindanao was at 6th place as of Thursday, ahead of Central Visayas by only by one gold medal. Northern Mindanao had 9 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals.
Davao Region was at 8th spot with an 8-9-9 medal haul with just two days left in the competition.
Caraga, ARMM and Zamboanga Peninsula placed 13th, 15th and 16th, respectively.
Caraga had a 3-4-4 medal harvest. ARMM salvaged a lone gold and lone silver, and four bronze medals. Zamboanga Peninsula only had four silver and four bronze medals to join MIMAROPA at the bottom of the standings. (MindaNews)
