ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/15 July) – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) registered 183 inmates during its second round of satellite registration on Monday at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) detention facility here.
The first round of Comelec’s satellite registration at the BJMP-administered Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC) was held last July 1.
Atty. Stephen Cañete, first district election officer, said Tuesday that 111 of the 183 inmates are from District I.
Atty. Joseph Ian Tria, second district election officer, said the remaining 72 of the 183 registrants are from his district.
The registration Monday of the 183 inmates had brought to a total of 731 inmates that were registered by the Comelec.
Two hundred ninety-eight inmates registered in the first round of satellite registration held last July 1 at the detention facility.
Cañete said the holding of the satellite registration aims to bring closer the service of Comelec to the public, and provide the opportunity to qualified individuals to participate in the country’s electoral process.
He said the registration is a joint project of the Comelec and the BJMP through ZCRC Warden Chief Insp. Julius Arro. (MindaNews)
