ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews/21 July) – Two workers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development kidnapped by suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in Sulu were released over the weekend, a police official said.
Senior Supt. Abraham Orbita, Sulu police director, said Agustino Sicangco and his wife, Nurhati, were released Saturday afternoon in Barangay Danag, Patikul town.
Orbita said the couple was brought by their relatives to the residence of Patikul Vice Mayor Jun Tarsum in Barangay Umangay after they were freed.
The couple was among the four (not three as earlier reported) DSWD-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao workers abducted by Abu Sayyaf bandits.
Orbita and his personnel brought them to the Integrated Provincial Health Office for medical check-up.
The victims were conducting a survey for the DSWD’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program when the bandits seized them in Barangay Upper Sinumaan, Talipao.
One of the four victims, Lerma Jurah, was freed Friday in Barangay Danag, Patikul.
Still in captivity is Robert Saputalo, whose whereabouts remained unknown. (MindaNews)
