MALAYBALAY CITY (MindaNews/30 December) – A landslide on Monday evening has cut off two sitios and a whole barangay from the rest of the city, a church lay leader said Tuesday.
Bryan Isoy, an alagad (church minister) in Barangay Can-ayan said over the phone the landslide occurred in Barangay Manalog, blocking access to two of its sitios, Baganaw and Kalib.
The landslide also cut off access to Barangay Kibalabag, Isoy added.
He said the landslide was caused by heavy rains the past days caused by tropical storm Seniang.
“The people are worried because no vehicles can enter so they can’t transport their produce,” he said.
Isoy said he was also worried that an electric post of Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative was already leaning and it could collapse anytime. He said if that happened, there would be no power in many upland barangays.
Manalog is about 30 kilometers from the city proper. It takes a habal-habal (motorcycle) two hours to reach the place due to bad road conditions.
“But this morning (Tuesday) it took us four hours to reach Malaybalay as the rains worsened the road conditions,” Isoy said. (H. Marcos C. Mordeno/MindaNews)
