SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews / 18 January) – An undetermined number of jewelries were seized by unidentified robbers who stormed a pawnshop-jewelry store in Surigao City on Saturday afternoon.
Richard Merca, one of the owners of Merca’s Pawnshop and Jewelry Store located along Magallanes Street said the robbery in one of their stores happened around 1:30 p.m. when their workers opened their shop.
Armed men held the workers at gunpoint and smashed the glass cases containing assorted jewelry.
Merca said he has yet to estimate the worth of jewelry taken.
Several store attendants nearby said the robbery took at least two minutes.
“It happened so fast. After taking those jewelry, they ran to their motorbike and sped off,” said one.
The store is approximately 400 meters from the Surigao City Police Office which is still investigating the incident. (Roel N. Catoto / MindaNews)
