ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews / 28 Jan) – The multi-agency Sea-based Anti-Trafficking Task Force (SBATTF) rescued Monday five would-be trafficking victims and arrested the alleged Malaysian recruiter in this city.
Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, Zamboanga City police director, said the victims were rescued after they were intercepted around 12:30 p.m. at the local wharf.
He said the five rescued would-be victims, including a woman, are all from Davao City. The oldest among them is 39 and the youngest, 24.
Casimiro said they were recruited by a 68-year-old Malaysian citizen who was arrested when the victims were rescued. The suspect, he added, failed to present legal documents that he can recruit workers in the country to work in Malaysia although those recruited workers have employment contracts.
Confiscated from the possession of the suspect and rescued victims were passports, passenger tickets and employment contracts.
Casimiro said the recruiter and the victims were turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
