ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews / 17 April) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced that more than 32,000 job vacancies are up for grabs in the Labor Day Jobs Fair in this city.
Sisinio Cano, DOLE regional director, announcement Friday that 25,000 of the job vacancies are for overseas while 7,576 are for local employment.
Cano said the jobs fair will be held at the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (Zamboecozone) in Barangay Talisayan, 26 kilometers west of City Hall.
He said 12 licensed recruitment agencies for overseas employment and 49 private companies and government agencies will join the fair.
Cano said they will provide vehicles free of charge to ferry the applicants from the city proper to Zamboecozone.
He advised applicants to bring their complete documents.
The jobs fair is the main event of this year’s Labor Day celebration in this city, dubbed “Fiesta del Dia de Obrero na Zamboecozone” (Labor Day Feast in Zamboecozone).
Meanwhile, several activities have been lined up for the observance of this year’s 113th Labor Day celebration.
The fiesta-like affair will also feature various festive and summer activities to include the diskwento fair (commodities fair); ball games and board game competitions; Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) demos, trainings and free services; military static displays and parachute drop exhibition; five-kilometer fun run; a zumba hour; and a “boodle fight” for the job seekers sponsored by the different local canning firms.
The merriment will commence with the motorcade from the city proper to the Zamboecozone by the various participating companies and employees’ associations.
This year’s Labor Day celebration is anchored on the theme “Disenteng Trabaho at Kabuhayan Alay Natin sa Bayan.”
