DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/02 May) –The Traffic Management Center (TMC) has been renamed the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) department head Rhodelio Poliquit said.
The change of name took effect this week, Poliquit said.
He said the city was still drafting the implementing rules and regulations of the ordinance that renames the department, but its functions remain.
The establishment of the CTTMO is through an ordinance signed last year by the committee on transportation.
The re-establishment of the department was one of the resolutions that were arrived at during a transportation summit held in November 2013 at the SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang.
Among the other recommendations was the review and update of the city’s comprehensive transport and traffic code.
In earlier interviews, Poliquit was vocal about the need for an increase in personnel by at least a hundred more to help man the city’s suburban districts.
The city council also asked the city government to support a study by the Asian Development Bank on the sustainable public transport system in the city as well as an inquiry on the issues and concerns of the transport sector.
The city was a recipient of a study conducted in 2013 called the Davao Sustainable Urban Transport Project, which assessed which transport system could help ease the city’s congested streets brought about by vehicle volume, as well as misguided franchising due to a lack of coordination with national agencies.
Earlier this week, City Administrator Melchor Quitain said in an interview that there were still no plans of increasing the personnel and that the request of the then-TMC has not reached the City Mayor’s Office. (MindaNews)
