All set for Butuan triathlon on Aug. 23

Triathletes from different parts of Mindanao are expected to participate in Butuan City’s “Timberman Tri 555” on August 23.

Jose T. Enriquez III, race director told MindaNews that this year’s event will feature two categories: 55.5 kilometers total and 33.3 kilometers.

“It’s now all systems go,” he said.

“Timberman Tri 555” is a project of the Infinite Sports Event and City Government of Butuan City in support of Department of Tourism. The activity hopes to draw at least 180 participants from different parts of Mindanao, and a few from Visayas and Luzon.

“We are promoting sports tourism and hoping that this will be a yearly activity as part of the sports program of the City Government of Butuan.

He said the event has a modified Olympic distance with participants eyeing the 55.5 kilometer race having to endure swimming 1.5 kilometers, biking 44 kilometers and running 10 kilometers.

Enriquez added that for the 33.3K distance, participants will swim 750 meters; bike 27 kilometers and run 5.5 kilometers.

Enriquez said there is a relay for the two categories.

He said cash prizes await the winners.

Registration fee is pegged at 1,500 pesos.
