British arrested for pornography, cybercrime

ZAMBOANGA CITY (MindaNews / 4 Nov) – A British national was arrested in Pagadian City Tuesday allegedly for pornographic activities, according to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

Chief Insp. Arnold Ventura, CIDG-Zamboanga del Sur provincial chief, said charges have been filed before the city prosecutor’s office against Peter William Cannel, 63, a resident of Rosario Subdivision in Barangay Dao in Pagadian.

Ventura said among the cases they filed against Cannel on Wednesday include violation of Republic Act 9775 otherwise known as the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009, RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Five minors were rescued from Cannel’s residence during the raid Tuesday afternoon, the CIDG chief said.

He said they applied for a search warrant after conducting a week-long surveillance on the alleged pornographic activities of the suspect following complaints of some parents.

Ventura said they confiscated from Cannel’s residence firearms and ammunition, assorted sex toys, computers, pornographic videos and photos of his minor victims uploaded to the internet.

He said the suspect has bought a house in Pagadian and has been staying there for almost five years now.
