SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews / 22 Dec) – Illegal drugs, estafa and violence against women and children have topped the list of criminal cases filed at the Surigao del Norte Regional Trial Court.
Lawyer John Cubillan, chief of the clerk of courts of the RTC, told MindaNews on Tuesday that cases in violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act, has topped the list with 203 cases.
“As of Tuesday we have 203 cases, majority of this alleged offenders are into selling and possession of methamphetamine hydrochloride commonly known as shabu,” he said.
He said there are 56 cases of estafa and 44 cases of violence against women and children logged this year so far.
Next in line are rape with 26 cases; robbery, 25; murder, 24; qualified theft, 21; anti-graft and corrupt practices, 18; theft, 15 cases, and attempted murder, 14.
Cubillan said Surigao del Norte has three RTCs, one of it tasked to litigate cases in Dinagat Islands.
