2 stabbed during New Year revelry in Davao

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 2 Jan) – Two persons were stabbed during the New Year’s celebration in this city.

The first incident took place at 5:30 a.m. at Purok Damayan in Buhangin where Ruben Mancao Jr., 22, single, was allegedly stabbed by a certain John Amoy, 23. Both are residents of the place.

Based on the report by the Buhangin Police Station, the suspect went to the station to seek help as he was reportedly chased by three unidentified persons.

It was later found out that Amoy stabbed the victim while having a drinking spree with him in a nearby basketball court. Those who ran after him were the neighbors who saw the stabbing.

Shortly afterwards, the victim’s mother, Rebecca dela Cruz, 43, and witness Jemer Alarcos, 18, reported this incident the authorities.

According to the witness, he saw the suspect drawing a kitchen knife and deliberately stabbed the back of Mancao, who was immediately rushed to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for treatment.

At 7 p.m. on December 31, construction worker Nestor N. Manolo, 48, married, was stabbed by Kulas P. Jermuso, 49, single. Both are renters at Block 2, Spring Valley in Buhangin.

Based on the initial investigation conducted by Ruben Corsino, the two engaged in a heated altercation after the victim the entered suspect’s room without asking his permission.

This prompted the suspect to grab his bolo and stabbed the victim on his stomach and left leg.

The victim was then rushed to SPMC where he is under observation.

Jermuso is detained at the Buhangin Police Station.
