SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews/05 January) — A huge whale shark was found dead at the shoreline of Pamosaingan village in Socorro town in Bucas Grande Islands, Surigao del Norte.
The whale shark locally known as “butanding or talikitiki” was found by locals at about 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Sarry Banaybanay, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer of Socorro said the whale shark measured 24 feet long and 9 feet wide.
Banaybanay said they could not determine yet why the giant fish died.
Several residents said the whale shark could have been a victim of dynamite fishing.
