DAVAO CITY(MindaNews/05 March) — The wife of the late Councilor Leonardo “Leo” Avila III has been appointed to take over his seat at the City Council.
President Benigno Aquino III signed the appointment papers of Lorie Trinidad-Avila on February 26, vice her husband, who passed away on December 20 after he suffered a stroke in September last year.
She told MindaNews that she was informed last Friday that her appointment has been transmitted to the City Council.
“Pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, you are hereby appointed member, Sangguniang Panlungsod of Davao CIty, vice Leonardo Placido Ramos Avila III. By virtue hereof, you may qualify and enter upon the performance of the duties of the office, furnishing this Office and the Civil Service Commission with copies of your oath of office,” the appointment letter stated.
Last January 22, Avila filed her certificate of candidacy as substitute candidate to her late husband after receiving her certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) from the Partidong Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban). She said the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, a local political party, then submitted their endorsement to the Department of Interior and Local Government a week after. (Antonio L. Colina IV / MindaNews)
