GENERAL LUNA, Siargao Island (MindaNews/25 June) – The mayor of General Luna has asked his barangay chairs to submit names of persons involved in the illegal drugs trade in the country’s surfing capital.
“Please give me the names of these persons so we could take action. If not, we would submit it to President-elect Duterte,” Mayor Jaime Rusillon said during his oath-taking Friday night at the Boulevard.
He also asked for the names of drug users in town.
“To the illegal drug pushers in town, this is my last appeal to you: please stop the illegal activity,” he said.
Police Supt. James Mejia, director of Surigao Del Norte Police Provincial Office said General Luna, the country’s surfing capital, is one of the hotspots in Siargao Island where illegal drugs trade is rampant.
Surigao del Norte Governor Sol Matugas, who hails from this town, admitted that illegal drugs are rampant in the surfing capital.
“I heard locals are using more shabu than marijuana and foreign tourists would like to use marijuana than shabu,” she said.
Last month, a suspected drug pusher named Recarido Antipasado was killed by unknown gunmen.
Until now local police could not identify the suspects in the killing. He said shabu pushers are fleeing the town, afraid they’d be the next victim. (Roel N. Catoto / MindaNews)
