DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 1 July) – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio took a 22-day leave starting Friday, July 1 until July 22.
Her older brother, two-term Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, broke the news during a press conference Friday at the City Hall without citing a reason for her leave.
His only response as to the reason behind the leave: “Sya na lang tubag ana” (She’ll be the one to answer that).
Friday’s press conference was called for by the City Information Office at 11 a.m., expecting that the come-backing mayor was the guest but it was her vice mayor brother who appeared around 12 noon and entertained questions from the media.
As the vice mayor, he will assume the post of acting mayor until the mayor reports for work.
He said that Sara, mayor from 2010 to 2013 and re-elected last May 9, tasked him to review all pending contracts of job order employees and other related documents “so that there will be no vacuum in government service.”
He added that he is also requested to review the preparations of this year’s Kadayawan sa Dabaw, ready the 2017 annual budget, and ensure the continuity of all pending projects.
He said that lawyer Tristan Dwight Domingo, who was head of the Business Bureau during Duterte-Carpio’s term as mayor from 2010 to 2013 and assistant City Administrator from 2013 to 2016, will be the acting City Administrator.
The vice mayor arrived home from Manila early Friday while Mayor Sara arrived in the city at around 7 p.m. Thursday from the inauguration of their father President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
