11 hotels, resorts in Region 12 get ‘star’ ratings from DOT

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews/07 October) — Eleven top hotels and resorts in Region 12 have received the prestigious “star” ratings from the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Nelly Nita Dillera, DOT Region 12 director, said the establishments obtained one- to four-star ratings based on the results of the latest audit conducted by the agency and independent third party auditors.

She said the audit was based on the new set of accommodation standards that had been adopted by the DOT.

It is composed of five levels, ranging from one to five stars, and a complementing point system, she said.

“(The ratings) are based on the availability of facilities and services, condition and quality of a specific facility, and quality of service,” Dillera said.

She said they conferred the “star-rated” establishments with plaques of recognition in a recent ceremony here.

The city’s Greenleaf Hotel, which is considered as Region 12’s flagship accommodation facility, received the highest star rating at four.

Three other hotels — East Asia Royale Hotel and Sun City Suites here, and The Farm at Carpenter Hill in Koronadal City — got three-star ratings.

Rated with two stars were: Phela Grande Hotel, Sydney Hotel, Family Country Hotel and Convention Center and Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao’s Roadhaus Hotel in this city; Alnor Hotel and Convention Center in Cotabato City; and, Fortune Field Resort in Banga, South Cotabato.

The Lemlunay Beach Resort in Maasim town in Sarangani received a one-star rating.

DOT said an accommodation establishment is considered fair and acceptable if it obtains a one-star rating, good for two stars, very good for three stars, and excellent for four stars.

Dillera lauded their “partner establishments” for leveling up with their services and facilities that “equates to better Soccsksargen tourism service.”

She said more accommodation establishments in the region are also lined up for audit or assessment.

It will cover those classified as tourist inns, resorts and pension houses, she said.

These are the Agua Guest House, EMR Suites, MD Square Pension House, FB Hotel and Convention Center, Greenstate Suites, PCC Homesuitehole and Apartelle de Andrea in Koronadal City; Dolores Farm in Polomolok, South Cotabato; Yolanda Golden Farm Resort in Tupi, South Cotabato; Tolento Lodge and Resto, and Sunrise Garden Lake Resort in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato; Monte Vicenteau, EDJIN Pension House and Woodland Tourist Inn in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat; and, Hillpark Inn and Restaurant, and Woodland Tourist Inn in Midsayap, North Cotabato.
