DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 01 January) — A Low Pressure Area (LPA) that may turn into a tropical depression has been estimated at 545 kilometers east of Surigao City as of 3 a.m. Monday, January 1, according to the state weather bureau.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 4 a.m. advisory that cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms are to be expected in Visayas and in Mindanao’s Caraga and Northern Mindanao due to the trough of the LPA.
It warned of “possible flash floods or landslides” in these areas due to “scattered moderate to occasionally heavy rains.”
Caraga comprises the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur and the cities of Bayugan, Bislig, Butuan, Cabadbaran, Surigao and Tandag. Northern Mindanao comprises Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental and the cities of Cagayan de Oro, El Salvador, Iligan, Gingoog, Malaybalay, Oroquieta, Ozamiz, Tangub and Valencia
