DAVAO CITY (MindaNewws / 01 January 2018) — A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck parts of South Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat at around 10:53 p.m. Sunday, registering Intensity IV in General Santos City, Lake Sebu in South Cotabato and Alabel in Sarangani, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake’s epicenter was at 57 kms southwest of Maasim, Sarangani. It was tectonic in origin and its depth of focus was 31 kilometers.
It registered Intensity III in Davao City, Lebak in Sultan Kudarat and Alabel in Srangani and Intensity II in Zamboanga City, Tupi and Sto. Nino in South Cotabato, and Koronadal City.
On December 25 (Christmas Day), a magnitude 5.2 quake also struck 236 kilometers southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental at 8:47 p.m. It was also tectonic in origin and its depth of focus was 12 kilometers. (MindaNews)
