Soldiers send home remains of NPA rebels killed in Makilala clash

COTABATO CITY (MindaNews / 24 Jan) – They may have fought hard and killed each other on the field, but despite the sad experience, human consideration is still offered.

Lt. Lea Canceran, civil military officer of the 39th Infantry Battalion, said their troops, together with Makilala police in North Cotabato, initiated to send back home to their families and loved ones the bodies of the three fallen New People’s Army rebels.

“It is a genuine proof that the government is concerned on the welfare of the people and in respecting human rights,” the lady spokesperson said.

The slain rebels were identified as Reymart Rusiana, 23, of Barangay Malabuan, Makilala; Arman Ogatis Mendoza, 39, of Barangay Nuling, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; and Roger Labajo Jr., 29, of Datal Batong, Malungon, Sarangani Province.

The local government of Makilala has paid for the funeral services of the slain rebels. Mayor Rudy Caoagdan said this should at least lessen the grief of the slain rebels’ families.

The three rebels, along with one CAFGU member, were killed when dawn on Monday more than 60 NPA rebels attacked a CAFGU detachment in Barangay Luayon in Makilala. The firefight lasted hours as military reinforcement, including helicopter gunships, came. (Ferdinandh Cabrera / MindaNews)
