KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 2 January) – The cancer-stricken wife of the deputy chief of police in President Roxas town in North Cotabato abducted late last month by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels died on Tuesday.
Inspector Menardo Cui, deputy chief of police of President Roxas, North Cotabato, was snatched on December 28 by at least five armed men inside HMB KTV Bar and Lodge in the poblacion.
Chief Inspector Andres Sumugat, chief of the President Roxas PNP, said Cui was off-duty at the time.
Cui’s mom Felomina said her son’s wife Florelie died around 12:45 a.m., on Tuesday.
Felomina said Florelie’s situation worsened after learning of her husband’s abduction. She was suffering from cervical cancer.
Cui’s second son, Jay, said his mother was rushed to the Kidapawan Doctors Hospital here on Sunday after she complained of shortness of breath.
Felomina told reporters here that they have not received any message yet from her son’s abductors.
She appealed to them to release his son so he could attend to his children’s needs now that their mother is gone.
Florelie worked as an employee at the municipal accounting office in Magpet, North Cotabato.
Meantime, an official of the intelligence unit of the Cotabato Police Provincial Office said they still don’t know Cui’s whereabouts.
Supt. John Meridel Calinga, head of CPPO’s intelligence unit, said they are still validating reports and information they have gathered from the field as to Cui’s case.
