DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 24 May) – Authorities arrested a Japanese national and his Filipino companion for allegedly trying to smuggle 13 kilograms of suspected dried marijuana worth P1.56 million into this city from Mati City, Davao Oriental on Wednesday.
In a report, Davao City Police Office spokesperson Maria Teresita Gaspan identified the suspects as Shohei F. Kume, 21, a Japanese national residing at Solariega Subdivision, Talomo, and Eliseo C. Esguerra, 20, of Green Meadows, Mintal, both in Davao City.
The suspects, who were onboard a Toyota Innova from Mati, were caught at the joint police and military checkpoint in Lasang, Davao City.
The two were allegedly caught in possession of 13 bundles of marijuana, each bundle weighing 1 kilogram, wrapped in newspapers and place at the backseat.
The two, identified by Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency 11 as high value targets, will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Antonio L. Colina IV/MindaNews)
