2 die in highway crash in Maguindanao

KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 6 June) – Two motorists were killed when their motorcycle rammed a passenger van along the Maguindanao-Cotabato highway around 2 pm on Tuesday, a police report said.

The report identified the fatalities as Blah Sinolinding, driver of the Honda Beat motorcycle, and Aiza Masual, both residents of Poblacion, Datu Montawal in Maguindanao.

Inspector Ramil Pandulo, chief of the Datu Montawal municipal police station, quoted witnesses as saying that Sinolinding tried to overtake another vehicle but failed to see a Toyota D4D passenger van coming from the opposite direction.

“It was too late for Sinolinding to avoid the crash because he was speeding so fast that was why he rammed into the van and flew literally and landed on the cemented floor few meters away from the site,” Pandulo said.

Sinolinding and his passenger were rushed to a hospital in nearby Kabacan, North Cotabato but were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, the report said.

Pandulo identified the van driver as Nick Barcelo, of Barangay Limbo, Sultan Kudarat in Maguindanao.

He said they will file a case of reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide against Barcelo.

The van has been placed under the custody of the Datu Montawal police. (Malu Cadelina Manar/MindaNews)
