GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews / 8 June) – Around 4,500 job vacancies will be opened to job seekers here and the neighboring areas in the upcoming Independence Day regional job and business fairs on June 12.
Sisinio Cano, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 12 director, said Friday at least 82 companies and job placement or recruitment agencies have already signified to participate in the event.
Dubbed Trabaho, Negosyo at Kabuhayan (TNK) fairs, he said it will be held at the KCC Mall Convention Center.
Cano said around 3,600 job vacancies are for placements in local companies and commercial establishments while the remaining 900 are for overseas work.
He said these were based on the vacancies registered by the 52 participating local employers and 30 overseas recruitment agencies to the agency’s Public Employment Information System.
“We focused again on generating more local job vacancies as these would mean potential immediate employment for our job seekers,” he said in a press conference.
The official said the local vacancies, which are all permanent or regular placements, include those for skilled production workers, households attendants, service crew, staff nurses as well as office-related works.
He said the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines would also conduct recruitment for 500 new personnel.
For overseas jobs, he said there are 550 vacancies for domestic helpers and 350 for production workers, with majority lined up for deployment in the Middle East.
Cano said they opened the pre-registration for the job fair last May 30 in coordination with the city government’s Public Employment Services Office, which they tapped as partner for the event.
He urged job seekers to avail of the pre-registration services, which is open until June 11, Monday, so they can access early the available job vacancies and match them with their qualifications.
“We’re hoping that the more job seekers would be hired on-the-spot and their chances will increase if they register early,” he said.
Aside from the job fair, the official said various activities would be held at the venue in line with the TNK strategy.
The Department of Trade and Industry will conduct a sales or discount caravan and will open consultation and services desks for its Negosyo Center and “Super Consumer” program.
The Technical Education Skills and Development Authority will hold skills demonstrations as well as free massage, manicure, pedicure and hair cutting services.
Service desks will be set up at the venue by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Professional Regulation Commission, Pagibig Fund, Philippine Statistics Authority, Bureau of Internal Revenue, National Bureau of Investigation and other attached agencies of DOLE.
As part of the event’s highlights, DOLE-12 will turnover around P11 million worth of livelihood grants to marginalized workers in parts of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and North Cotabato. (MindaNews)
