KIDAPAWAN CITY (MindaNews / 28 June) – Authorities have discovered an abandoned marijuana plantation in a remote village in Aleosan, North Cotabato on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Senior Insp. Edwin Abantes, chief of the Aleosan PNP, said that upon hearing from reliable sources that a marijuana plantation exists in Barangay New Panay, he immediately dispatched a team there.

The policemen discovered 89 marijuana plants already uprooted and abandoned in Purok 8 of New Panay.

They also saw 21 more plants in the adjacent Purok 8 and uprooted them all.

Abantes hinted that the planters might have been tipped of the raid so that when the policemen arrived at the site, they saw no one.

The plants were immediately turned over to the headquarters of the Cotabato PNP Crime Laboratory in Kidapawan City for safekeeping, while Aleosan PNP continues with its investigation to determine the people behind the plantation, Abantes said. (Malu Cadelina Manar / MindaNews)
